Interactive Demonstrations
Virtual presentation instructions are now available!
Interactive demonstrations are highly valued at the IEEE World Haptics Conference (WHC) and may showcase any type of haptic devices, software, experiences, or experiments of interest to the haptics community.
WHC 2021 will be held as a virtual conference from July 6 to 9, 2021. The WHC 2021 Organizing Committee is soliciting interactive demonstrations to be included in the conference program as on-demand videos and interactive videoconferencing sessions with the presenters. Presenters are encouraged to show a live demonstration during their interactive videoconferencing session. WHC 2021 also welcomes re-submissions of demonstrations that were accepted for the 2020 IEEE Haptic Symposium or the 2020 EuroHaptics conference.
Demo Submission and Review Process
Submissions must include a one-page abstract, a representative image, and a preliminary video of the demonstration, to be submitted through PaperPlaza. Abstracts should clearly describe the demonstration and its scientific novelty, and include a descriptive title and a list of authors.
Abstracts are to be prepared in the ieeeconf format and submitted as a pdf file. The minimum image size is 500×500 pixels. Videos are to be submitted in the mp4 format, with a maximum size of 20MB and a duration of 1-4 minutes. A duration of 2-3 minutes is recommended.
The accepted demo proposals will be included in the conference proceedings but will not appear on the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

Virtual Presentation Instructions
Your Interactive Demonstration will be presented during an Interactive Session in which you’ll be able to discuss your work with attendees in your personal videoconferencing room. Your video demonstration will be available on-demand for attendees.
To get ready for your virtual presentation, we ask that you prepare the following materials and upload them to the virtual conference platform (X-CD):
▪ A video demonstration (MP4): Your video demonstration will be based on the video that you submitted for the proceedings on PaperPlaza. Although the same video file can be reused, we encourage you to update your video by following these guidelines for improved video quality and accessibility. More specifically, we encourage you to produce a higher-quality video with larger file size and to add a voice over and captions to make it accessible to a more diverse audience. To upload your video demonstration to X-CD, use the “Record/Upload Presentation” feature as described in the upload instructions.
▪ Supporting content (if applicable; PDF): We encourage you to give a live demonstration during your Interactive Session. If this is not possible, we ask you to prepare supporting content to assist discussions during the Interactive Session. This could, for example, be a set of slides or a video that you will screen-share during your videoconference to explain your work. This content will also be made available on-demand. To upload your supporting content on X-CD, use the “Additional Presentation Files” feature as described in the upload instructions.
▪ One-page abstract manuscript (PDF): Please download a copy of your manuscript from PaperPlaza and upload it to X-CD. To upload your manuscript, use the “Manuscript File” feature as described in the upload instructions.
Please see our resources page for the conference logo and zoom backgrounds that can be used for your materials and your presentations.
Please plan to have all required materials, including your video demonstration, uploaded to the virtual conference platform by June 25, 2021.
Note that only one author can act as presenter, upload content to the virtual platform and participate in the Interactive Session. The presenter must be a registered attendee of the conference. The presenter will be assumed to be the corresponding author for the submission, as indicated on PaperPlaza. If you would like a different author to be the presenter, please fill out this form as soon as possible.
For any questions, please contact either the Demonstrations Chair at demos@2021.worldhaptics.org or the Virtual Arrangement Chairs at virtual@2021.worldhaptics.org.
